School News


Jim VanDenHemel Day to be held on Friday, May 6

The Woonsocket City Council and the Woonsocket school have approved and dedicated Friday, May 6 as Jim VanDenHemel Day.   Mr. VanDenHemel has been a part of the Woonsocket School and community for 45 years and will be retiring as the Woonsocket School Industrial Tech teacher at the end of the school year.

Various activities will go throughout the day starting with a staff breakfast. The community is invited to a walk-around-the-lake with Mr. V at 1:00PM (weather permitting) and an assembly in the gym at 1:30PM.  Ice Cream bars will be handed out afterwards provided by the Woonsocket Student Council.  


No soccer games today in Woonsocket!!!
Saturday's games in Sanborn are questionable.


Eligibility will be taken next Monday, May 2nd.



The Juniors have started setting up for Prom, so please no one in the gym this week.




Upcoming Scholarship dates:

** Those of you eligible for the SD Opportunity Scholarship (ACT score of 24 and GPA of 3.0 and required classes completed) please see me.




Changes have been made to the testing schedule. Here is the new schedule

              * Make up tests will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday preferable in the morning *
     


  
Athletics

Track Practice at Woony today. 


JH Track at Hanson today has been cancelled. 


HS Track Meet at Menno has been cancelled for today.  


The JH and Freshman Track go to Wessington Springs on Monday, May 2nd.


We are going to the High School Miller Track Meet on Tuesday, May 3rd due to the Spring Concert that night.


The soccer games that were cancelled on Monday, April 18th in Woonsocket will be played April 28th in Woonsoc​ket.   Same times.

FFA

SC/W FFA Banquet is on the evening of May 2nd, at 6:00 pm held in the Woonsocket School gym.  
Below are the meal assignments for this year’s potluck:
Freshmen – Main Course
Sophomores – Main Course
Juniors – Side and Dessert
Seniors – Side and Dessert


Mr. Gross will be putting on an informational night for parents about Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs).  This informational night will cover the following:
  • What is an SAE
  • The types of SAEs (Entrepreneurship, Placement, or Agribusiness)
  • The expectations of SC/W FFA members as related to SAEs (during the school year and the summer)
  • How to access the record keeping system the FFA uses (www.theaet.com)
  • How to enter basic SAE records
  • FFA awards from SAE projects (proficiency awards, SD FFA Star awards)
More information will be released next week on the specifics on date(s) and location(s). Please email Mr. Gross if you have any questions.

June 21-22 - Rangeland and Soils Days
Soils Days - Open to incoming 9th and 10th Grade Members
Rangeland Days - Open to incoming 11th and 12th Grade Members
There is no cost to attend

July 12-15 - SD FFA Leadership Retreat
Open to all incoming 9th-12th Grade Members
Cost to attend is $65 per member

August 17 - SD FFA State Fair Entry Forms Due to Mr. VanderWal (SD FFA Livestock Superintendent)


Post Prom

Post Prom will be hosting their final fundraiser of the year prior to the Spring Concert. Each family is asked to bring a pie to the school the morning of May 3rd. Thanks again for all your support throughout the year!

The Woonsocket Post Prom Committee is having a pie social on Tuesday, May 3 at 6:00 pm in the commons area of the school before the Spring Concert.   Pie will also be served after the concert.  It is $3.00 for a slice of pie and a drink.  The concert starts at 7:00 pm.



We are asking the Seniors that are attending to make an Egg Bake and drop it off at the Community Center Friday, April 29 between 6-8. We are asking students 9-11 that are attending to bring $5.00 to help with the cost of food. In the past we have had people donate bars, pop, ect. but decided we would try this way this year.

The Town N Kountry Kids 4-H Club and the Woonsocket American Legion Post #29 are working together to have a Flag Burning Ceremony for the disposal of unserviceable US flags.  The ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 5th at 2:30 pm by the museum/bridge area of the lake.  The public is invited to attend.  If you have unserviceable flags that need to be burned, please get them to any Legion member, or drop them off at the Woonsocket Library.


The Lutheran/Methodist Community Vacation Bible School (for pre-school children) and Day Camp (for students having completed Kindergarten through fifth grade.) will be held June 12-16.  Registration Forms are available at Wednesday Night Live or from Sarah Jensen.   All children are welcome!  REMINDER, REGISTRATION FORMS ARE DUE BY MAY 1ST!

Golf at DeSmet today. Students attending are Brady Tiede and Jastyn Ford. Leave time is 11AM


Due to Wessington Springs not having enough teams for their track meet, the HS Track team will be attending Menno on Thursday. Field Events start at 3:30 with Running events at 4:30PM
